HELPING COMMUNITES PREPARE FOR WILDFIRE
Our On-Call Prescribed Fire Crew serves a variety of communities across regions prone to wildfire risk, focusing on areas in need of land management and fire risk reduction. Primary areas include Nevada, Sierra, Plumas, Lassen, Butte, Yuba, El Dorado, and Amador counties. We work in forested areas, grasslands, and other natural landscapes, aiming to restore and maintain ecological health through prescribed burns. Our efforts focus on reducing hazardous fuels, promoting habitat restoration, and enhancing wildfire resilience in areas vulnerable to uncontrolled fires. We also assist local landowners, parks, and wildlife management agencies by executing safe and effective burns that benefit both the environment and surrounding communities. GAIN NATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
Our On-Call Prescribed Fire Crew provides members with the opportunity to gain valuable NWCG (National Wildfire Coordinating Group) certifications and qualifications, enhancing their skills and career prospects in fire management. Crew members have the ability to complete training and earn certifications, including Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2), which is a nationally recognized qualification for wildland firefighters. Through hands-on training, classroom instruction, and real-time participation in prescribed burns, members can earn certifications in fire behavior, safety protocols, and land management practices. ON-CALL CREW REQUIREMENTS
To join our On-Call Prescribed Fire Crew, candidates must meet several key requirements. Applicants should be at least 18 years old and in good physical condition, as the role involves outdoor work in diverse weather conditions and may require lifting, walking, and working in rugged terrain. While previous experience in fire management or land stewardship is beneficial, applicants will have the opportunity to complete safety and fire behavior courses to gain essential skills. A valid driver’s license is required for transportation to and from burn sites. Crew members must be available to respond on short notice for prescribed burns and assist with other fire-related activities as needed. A strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and environmental stewardship is crucial. Once you’ve joined the crew and provided your updated email address, you’ll receive timely notifications about burn dates, locations, and any changes to scheduled activities. In addition, we’ll send updates regarding training sessions, workshops, and certification opportunities. These communications ensure that you’re always informed and prepared to participate in upcoming burns and training events. We prioritize clear and efficient communication, ensuring members have enough time to make arrangements and stay up to date with crew activities. To ensure you don’t miss any important information, please keep your contact details current. WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
As a member of the On-Call Burn Crew, you will need to provide the equipment listed below, which is essential for participating in prescribed burns. All other personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for safety will be provided by the Healthy Forest Alliance, including fire shelters, radios, first aid kits, and any additional gear required for fire management activities. The Healthy Forest Alliance ensures that you have the proper safety equipment to perform your duties effectively and safely.
By providing your own basic gear and utilizing the equipment supplied by the Alliance, you'll be fully prepared for the demands of prescribed burns and fire management. This combination ensures both your safety and the success of our fire operations
