Job Posting: NWCG Training Lead Instructor (Independent Contractor)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced NWCG Training Lead Instructor to join our team as an independent contractor. In this role, you will deliver top-notch wildfire training programs in alignment with the standards set by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG). Your expertise will ensure participants gain the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in wildland fire management and suppression operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the Lead Instructor for NWCG-certified courses, ensuring compliance with NWCG standards and guidelines.
Develop, organize, and deliver engaging training sessions using a combination of classroom instruction, practical exercises, and hands-on fieldwork.
Collaborate with course coordinators, assistant instructors, and evaluators to ensure seamless training delivery.
Assess participant performance and provide constructive feedback to foster skill development.
Maintain accurate training records and prepare post-course reports.
Stay current on NWCG updates, standards, and best practices to ensure training content remains relevant and effective.
Ensure safety protocols are adhered to during all training activities.
Qualifications:
Certification as a Current NWSA-Qualified Lead Instructor for NWCG Courses(e.g., S-130/S-190, S-215, S-390, or other applicable courses).
Must be a current NWCG-Qualified Single Resource Boss.
Formal instructional certification or training (e.g. State fire training certificate, college teacher’s credential, college education courses, NWCG M-410 Facilitative Instructor course), and 80 hours of successful fire service instruction.
Extensive experience in wildland firefighting operations and/or fire management.
Proven ability to deliver high-quality instruction to diverse groups of participants.
Strong knowledge of NWCG standards, fire behavior, suppression techniques, and safety protocols.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Current Red Card (preferred).
Ability to travel to various training locations as required.
Contract Details:
Type: Independent Contractor
Location: Remote and/or designated training sites (travel required).
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule: Project-based, with flexibility to accommodate training timelines.
