Job Posting: California State Certified Burn Boss (CARX)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced California State Certified Burn Boss (CARX) to join our team as an independent contractor. In this role, you will lead prescribed burn operations, ensuring compliance with California state regulations and best practices for wildfire risk reduction, ecosystem restoration, and fire management. Your expertise will ensure the safe and effective execution of prescribed burns, benefiting the environment and local communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the designated Burn Boss (CARX) for prescribed fire operations, overseeing all aspects of burn planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Develop and review burn plans to ensure compliance with California state regulations and environmental guidelines.
Conduct site assessments, including evaluating fuel loads, weather conditions, and fire behavior to ensure burn feasibility and safety.
Lead and coordinate prescribed burn teams, including briefing participants, assigning roles, and managing resources.
Ensure all prescribed burn activities follow state laws, permitting requirements, and safety protocols.
Monitor and document fire behavior, weather conditions, and post-burn outcomes.
Maintain effective communication with stakeholders, including landowners, regulatory agencies, and community members.
Provide mentorship and training to burn crew members to promote skill development and adherence to safety standards.
Qualifications:

Current California State Certification as a Burn Boss (CARX).
Extensive experience in planning and leading prescribed burns, including wildfire management and ecological restoration.
Strong understanding of California fire ecology, fuel types, and regulatory requirements.
Proven ability to lead and manage diverse teams in dynamic field environments.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Familiarity with NWCG standards and prescribed fire best practices (preferred).
Current Red Card and qualifications in wildfire management (preferred).
Ability to travel to prescribed burn sites throughout California.
Contract Details:

Type: Independent Contractor
Location: California (site-specific travel required).
